In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program
IHSS provides in-home services to low-income aged, blind, or disabled individuals. The program's goal is to keep clients who are at risk of placement safely in their own homes. Services include non-medical personal care services, domestic and related services, paramedical services, assistance while traveling to and from medical appointments, and a limited about of heavy cleaning.
Basic Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to receive services a client must have a need for services (enabling them to remain safely at home) that goes beyond a request for light housekeeping, and be able to meet the following requirements.
Clients meet the following criteria:
- California resident - only referrals for clients living in San Diego County will be accepted by this system
- Has a disability that will last over a year
- Lives in his/her "own home" (Own home is not an acute hospital, intermediate care facility, community care facility, skilled nursing facility, or board and care)
- Is trying to perform his/her own services, his/'her health and safety is endangered, and is at risk of being prevented from remaining in his/her own home
- If services are not provided, client will need to go into out-of-home placement
